Steps
Step 1.
Start with one step, but prepare for the long run.
Step 2.
Refine your Class 2s, step-by-step ‘til they’re passable
But there’s no need to be unsurpassable.
Rather, take stock; be insurmountable
In the face of weary odds-- masked up and goggles on.
Step 3.
Time-out. And eat.
You’d be surprised to see how
Hunger for others works meaningful wonders.
While thirst for mere self can leave you with nothing else.
While we’re at it, treat others the way you’d like to be
So that when it’s time to re-treat your patient, you can stay patient
While you look for canals to keep patent.
Step 4.
Not everything is about scores – and yet,
School is not meant to be merely scores of endless chores
Find those little moments to be impressed – just avoid the
Air bubbles, any needless, empty troubles.
Never lose sight of the heart that got you here.
Nor the steps that gets your heart racing so your mind lets go of the fear
And your body can re-set, re-collect-- can breath once more.
And step 0.
Back to zero.
Back to two too many yellow blank sheets and scrubs to clean and doors shut just out of reach and
Too hard to keep track of this clutter -- too easy to feel too free in free-fall tonight in full flight.
So.
Zero is go and throw the throes of the remains of demands today’s made.
Is lay back and catch the falling stars, those very ones you had shot for
And the sleep you had so passionately sought for.
A long while ago, even before zero,
You were prepared for this long run
And here we’ve come full circle, from steps 1 through 4
You were thoroughly prepared.
And now completely restored.
